Arlington National Cemetery John F. Kennedy Grave Site

John Kennedy was the 35th President of The United States.  When he was elected in 1960, he brought a new energy and excitement to the country.  Among things that he is best remembered for was his challenge to the nation to, "place a man on the moon before the end of the decade."

On Veterans Day, November 11, 1963, Kennedy visited Arlington National Cemetery to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.  Later that day, while visiting the Lee Mansion that you see in the picture, he walked out on to the lawn, and looked out over Washington and said,"this is a place where a person could spend eternity."

Eleven days later, November 22, 1963, Kennedy was assasinated by a lone gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald. and so, even though Kennedy was a native son of Massachusetts, the decission was made to bury him at the location he spoke about 11 days before his death.

Next to the President is his wife, Jacquelene Kennedy Onasssis, and two Kennedy infants who died shortly after they were born.
