The Sprague - Nelson House - 1924-1925
Description:
Celebrating its 100th anniversary, this colonial revival bungalow was built in 1924-1925 by Earl Sprague, a local home builder and volunteer firefighter here in Longmont. The house was most notably the home of John C and Ruby Nelson (a founding family of Longmont) who moved into town from their farm in 1948. Ruby lived here until her death in 1990, bequeathing the house to the First Lutheran Evangelical Church on 3rd Ave. Ruby Nelson was the oldest person to have lived in Longmont, living to 105 years old. The church rented the house until late 2005, when the Conlins made it their home.
The house stood as it was built for about 90 years, until it went through a major renovation in 2016-2017, doubling the living space while maintaining its classic bungalow style. The renovation included updates to all systems (HVAC, electric, plumbing, solar), and updated living areas – a modern kitchen, office, family room, finished basement with small kitchen, cupboard under the stairs, and more.
