The Ghosts of the Parceland, Part 2

The mural on the north side of this restaurant, titled "Pioneers at the Parceland," is based on a photo from 1890. The Parceland Hotel name was a portmanteau, combining the last names of Henry DeLand and his wife, Sarah Parce DeLand. The mural depicts a large group of tourists waiting for a train that will take them toward home.

If you'd like to summon the spirits of Henry and Sarah DeLand, this site serves as a powerful psychic focus. You should know however, that the happy times depicted in the mural didn't extend to the DeLand family. During the winter of 1885, a Great Freeze destroyed the citrus groves in Volusia County, and Henry DeLand lost his entire fortune. Sarah DeLand was already slipping into madness. They returned to their native New York state, and she spent the rest of her life in an insane asylum.

Next location: While we're here, turn around and look diagonally across the street toward the old Opera House building.
