Cardozo Hotel l Cavalier Hotel

Cardozo Hotel

The Cardozo Hotel was designed and built in 1939 and was named for Benjamin Cardozo, one of the first Jewish jurors on the U.S. Supreme Court. The building was designed by Henry Hohauser and displays distinct features like the keystone trim made up of dyed porous limestone. In 2019, Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio purchased the hotel and underwent a $15 million dollar renovation. The hotel then reopened as the Cardozo South Beach, a newly refined boutique hotel. The Cardozo has been pictured in many popular feature films including Any Given Sunday, and Something About Mary.

Cavalier Hotel

Designed in 1936 by Roy F. France, the Cavalier Hotel is a good example of the iconic South Beach Art Deco. Looking at the building you can see bright pastel colors and intricate Egyptian-inspired designs. During the building boom in the 1930's many people took inspiration from the recent opening of King Tut's tomb, which gives us the Egyptian styles we see today not just here, but in many other South Beach hotels as well. To the right you can see more of the Mediterranean style design with The Netherland hotel as well.
