Memorias is a series that contains eight total panels of work located at Pedernales and Chicon, created 2024. This mural is a dedication to Lupe Garcia, an East Austin resident and the President of the Housing Authority of the City of Austin’s Resident Council. Each panel is a tribute to her impact on the community, immortalized through symbols of community gathering and support. She has taken charge of many roles, including being the founder of a women’s conference called Woman’s Mind at Ease, the creator of a nonprofit called IMoms that gives intergenerational communities of mothers a multitude of opportunities, and coordinates the food pantry, backpack drive, and Christmas events for the Santa Rita Courts Community. Eight panels doesn’t feel like enough to laud the accomplishments and efforts of Lupe Garcia, but what is most important is the reflection of community and togetherness that can be seen in this art.
