Merlot Vineyard

Welcome to the first stop on your tour, the vineyard.  These are merlot grapes that are used to make Merlot wine.  I have a sample of for you to taste, because what would a vineyard stop be without some wine?  Merlot is that it is the second-most planted grape in the entire world. (Cabernet Sauvignon is number one.)

Merlot translates to “little blackbird” in an old regional French dialect.

When you taste your wine expect to be greeted with flavors of black cherry, plum, chocolate, dried herbs, and cedar. Most Merlot wines sit in the middle of the red wine spectrum, with medium levels of tannin, acidity, and alcohol. Exceptional Merlot wines are so bold, they can be confused for Cabernet Sauvignon.

If you were to pair this wine with food, you would ideally go for turkey, pork, root vegetables, winter salads, stews, and all manner of harvest foods. Avoid pairing Merlot with fish, leafy greens, or spicy foods, where it can either overwhelm or be overwhelmed.

Please pick and taste. Go out and explore. Use basket to collect grapes, then top off your wine and be off to the next stop, the cherry orchard!
