If ever a piece of art suggested an otherworldly exploration, it might be George C. Scott's Marinascope. From the vessel itself - a spooky craft designed for otherworldly travels - to the incredible glass portals, each imagining micro and macro worlds, Marinascope provides a great "thinktank" for pondering just about anything from outer space to inner space.
Marinascope's frame is a 10-foot-high by six-foot-wide refurbished shipping lane buoy. The artist rescued the derelict, pockmarked its exterior with portholes of varying size, and holes were then filled with fused glass panels created by local residents. The final product is a larger-than-life kaleidoscope reflecting the colors of Puget Sound.
Marinascope concludes Part One of the tour! You can retrace your steps to where you started, back through the marina and up Cliff Avenue to the mural, or take a walk north on 6th Avenue South to South 223rd Street.
Part II of the tour covers more distance - and you might choose to finish the tour with your vehicle!
