This transitional sconce is compelling as it combines a gas light in the front with an electric lamp in the back. Fixtures like this could be very useful as the electric service was not always reliable when first developed.  Electrical shorts and outages were common, even in the household of Henry Rogers.

The fixtures in this room are not original but are period pieces that illustrate this transition.
