Dining Room

The Dining Room, and by extension entertaining there, was an important aspect of the house.  A dinner party was a major social event, under the control of the lady of the house.  She determined where people sat, according to the rules of etiquette.  The dinner party was designed to show the family to its best advantage, demonstrating its taste with fine china and silver.
