Library - The Light Fixtures
When the Appleton Post reported that it was as bright as day in the Rogers residence, the paper was referring to these lights: Literally these lights, as almost the entire house still has the original light fixtures used on that very first night. In fact, each of these re-creation bulbs give off the exact same amount of light as the original - only eight watts. Imagine then how bad candlelight, gaslight, and lamplight were if these bulbs are "as bright as day."
By the way, they weren’t called “bulbs” then. They were called “electric lamps” (as the term bulb wasn’t used until 1884). So we will use “electric lamps” on our tour.
On that first night, Hearthstone became the first house anywhere in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity and a central Edison lighting system.
