Cable Roadway

The Cable Roadway, are one of Sausalito's hidden treasures.  This combination of staircases and paved roadway is presumed to be dervived from its use as a as a "way by which material were hauled up the hill", and a possilble cable tramway.for the former Maganese Mining operation in the late 1880's.  Now this pathway offers a quiet & serene walk among old home, trees and gardens that most tourist never see.  It is one of Sausalito's longest pathways at 195 steps.  The walk is lovely but due to its age has a mixture wood and concert ties with some small protruding obsticles and no lights and mostly no handrails.  So pick the right time of day to walk and take it slow & carefully.   Challenges asdie, it is worth the effort.

Directions: Old Town, Go up Richardson St. to West St. and Central St. Junction.  Turn Right up Central.  Cable Roadway will be a corner of Central and North.
