709 South Edison Avenue - Jordan and Maks Budovskiy

This jewel of a home is the perfect example of a Mediterranean bungalow—pretty popular in Hyde Park! Like all streets east of S Willow, this land used to be part of William Morrison’s famous orange groves before he sold it all to Bayshore Realty Company to be subdivided.

This 1922 residence features distinctive historic details at every corner, which the Budovskiys could not resist. They used to live in St. Petersburg and had looked at many many places to buy, but nothing fit the bill. At the time, Maks was driving across the bridge every day for work meetings. He saw a “For Sale” sign in front of this house one day and told Jordan that they had to come look. They immediately put in an offer, even though all of their friends were on the other side of the bridge!

They replaced and/or fixed up essentials like the roof, foundation, and all the windows. They hired a restoration company to come in and restore each window one-by-one. It took two months for the job to be completed.

Jordan says, “The feeling of being in here is so cozy, we love the character of it, and the backyard is like a little oasis.” They have friends over about once a month to enjoy the beautiful screened-in porch eating area and pool.

Maks says, “Because it’s 100 years old, there’s a certain feeling you get here that you can’t get in a new house.”
