The Music Room

This room would've served a couple of purposes. Since it is off of the foyer, guests of the Dows could've been brought in here to wait for whomever they were meeting. It also could've been filled with the sound of music boxes and instruments. The Dows, as you will see throughout the house, had a deep appreciation for art and culture and this extended to music. Grace Dow could play the piano and the organ, her daughters could play the piano, Alden could play the saxophone, and we've found many musical devices in the house.

The large music box on the table is called a polyphone and would've been an early way to play different songs on one device. When turned, the handle propels a spring, which, when released, powers the large gear and turns the large metal disk you see on top. If you look below the table you can see that had quite a collection of songs!
