Purple Leaf Plum

From here, head east on 24th Street to Sanchez Street, and turn left.

At 1068 Sanchez is a purple leaf plum (the scientific name is Prunus cerasifera).  The purple leaf plum was San Francisco’s most planted tree for many years, but it has fallen out of favor recently.  The trees look great in late January and early February when they bloom with pinkish-white flowers, but they lose their leaves early in the season, and are often bare of leaves by early August.
