Early Lake Alfred Families:
James and Villa Cox brought their family here in 1907. The town was called Chubb at that time. Cox established a grocery store in 1913, and later became the city's first treasurer.
Frank and June Gardner, pictured in the photo, arrived here in 1911. Gardner was one of the original partners in the Florida Fruitlands Company, a land development company specializing in citrus groves.
Alexander Mackay was a Scotish entrepreneur who purchased land here in 1915 and was one of the city's largest citrus grove investors.
These three families represent only a few of the many families who helped to establish Lake Alfred's early growth and prosperity.
