Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

Franklin Roosevelt is, and will be, the only President to be elected to serve for four terms,  FDR was the 32nd President, and was first elected in 1932, as the Great Depression was getting underway.  He was re-elected in 1936, again in 1940, and for a fourth term in 1944, although he did not finish this term, dying in April of 1945.

Roosevelt served as President during some of the most challenging times in our history, adding to the issues he dealt with during his time in office was the already mentioned Great Depression, as will as World War II.

The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution was passed by the US Congress and ratified by the States in 1951 limiting the number of terms a President can serve to two.

President Roosevelt suffered from Polio, a disease that caused death and paralysis in thousands around the world until vaccines were developed in 1954.  Much of the money for the research was raised by a charitable organization, The March of Dimes.  Now, the next time you look at a dime, you will be looking at the face of Franklin Roosevelt, and you will know and remember why his face is on that dime.
