Trowt's Store

Looking for groceries? A post office? Look no further than Trowt's Store located on Main Street from 1880 to 1943.

Walking along Main Street will take you by a church, museum, firehouse and many homes. All these buildings, and the ones before them, have their own unique history. On the corner of Main Street and Friend Court, where the Wenham Firehouse is located today, was where the Union Block was located. This store sold medicine, groceries, furniture and “fancy goods.” In 1880 the building was sold to the Trowt brothers who ran a grocery store in the building and changed the name to Trowt’s Store. At one point, the post office was even located in the Trowt's store. The building was torn down in 1955.

Right by the former Trowt’s Store was the Enon Building. Enon 1 was a part of a fire station and was moved and placed behind the Wenham Museum in 1982 for $1. There was a second Enon Building that was also used as a fire station. The second Enon Building is now a part of the Wenham Museum and is an office for staff at the museum!
