Holding the Light for You

"Holding the Light for You," by Somerville artist Melissa Shaak, is a series of seven sculptural figures that took a dare and stepped out of their paintings into space and time. Each raises a torch, or scepter, holding the light, signaling and leading the way. The invitation inherent in the work is to catch and take hold of the creative impulses that come our way.
