Welch

2. Dr. Welch House

Dr. William Blackwell Welch, pictured above, was an influential country doctor in Northwest Arkansas. He served as a military surgeon in the Civil War, where he fought along side Zeb Edminston, Major F.R Earle, and many other Cane Hill residents in the 34th Arkansas infantry. Dr. Welch returned to Cane Hill after the War, but eventually moved to the nearby city of Fayetteville, where he helped start Fayetteville City Hospital, now Washington Regional. Dr. Welch also served as the first president  of the Arkansas medical Society. Dr. Welch's home unfortunatly fell into disrepair and was destroyed by fires years ago but some remnants are still visible today.
