Gregg County Historical Museum / Everett Building

Our first stop is the Gregg County Historical Museum, located in the grand Everett Building, a two-story brick landmark that has stood proudly since 1910. As you pull up along Fredonia Street, take a moment to appreciate the building’s architecture — raised basement, tall arched windows, and early 20th-century design. When it was constructed, this area was part of Longview’s commercial core, bustling with cotton brokers and merchants. The Everett Building is one of the few survivors of that era — when much of downtown’s 19th- and early 20th-century landscape was replaced by modern structures.

Inside, the museum brings Gregg County’s history to life — from the days when cotton ruled the economy, through the discovery of oil that transformed the region in the 1930s. You’ll find exhibits on the Dalton Gang’s 1894 Longview robbery, the importance of the railroad, and even an interactive Kids Zone that lets younger visitors experience hands-on history. The museum is currently undergoing renovations to expand its storytelling — soon including tributes to local athletes, artists, and Native American heritage, ensuring that Gregg County’s story keeps growing right along with its people.
