Sabuga Fountain

We cannot fail to highlight one of the most emblematic fountain of Sintra: the Sabuga Fountain. This famous fountain has undergone several changes over the centuries. The importance of Sabuga is attested by the fact that, after the 1755 earthquake, which destroyed about two thirds of Sintra, it was quickly rebuilt.

The waters of Sabuga are already drunk and spoken, at least, since the XII century for the medicinal virtues. In the 1920s, water was sold by the glass and came to be sold by a Lisbon firm.

Not so long ago, long lines were made to fetch water from Sabuga, perpetuating the old popular saying that anyone, who drinks water from this fountain will never forget Sintra.
