Lippincott Building

If you walk up Avalanche Street from the hotel, you'll find at the corner of Avalanche Street and Washington Street the Lippincott building. The Lippincott building is noted for its architectural details, uncommon for buildings in mining towns at that time. The local paper wrote that Mr. Otto Patscheck, a “carpenter and carver of unusual ability,” was hired to add the details seen on this building and the Stoddard House as well. A beautiful cabinet he built can also be seen at the Owyhee County Museum in Murphy.

The yellow building with green trim on the corner was the medical office of Doctor AC Lippincott. He had these buildings constructed in 1896 for his medical practice, his residence, and for the drug store, called Model Pharmacy. The green building to the right was the pharmacy and was operated by Charles Knapp and his son. Mr. Knapp came to the county in the early 1880s to serve as the superintendent of the DeLamar Mining Company. When the company was sold in 1891, Mr. Knapp fell back to the pharmacy trade he learned as a young man in Illinois. The drug store and services were regarded as one of the best in the state at that time.

The building has been lovingly restored and is privately owned.
