Carlsville: Coffee in the morning, wine in the afternoon

While Carlsville may appear to be an unlikely place to start our tour, it does offer some qualities that set it apart from the rest of the county and it has a nice collection of significant businesses.

One of the best places to be in the morning is the Door County Coffee and Tea which is locally owned and has been a part of the area for over 20 years.  They roast and package all of their own beans which are available in the gift shop, online, or through their vast distribution network.  The store also has many Door County branded gifts that are good for the coffee drinkers back home and there is a nice cafe which offers light meals for breakfast and lunch. A great place to begin the tour with a coffee, a small breakfast, or just to use the bathroom.

Down at the other end of the parking lot is the Door County Candle Company.  It made a name for itself by selling a candle to raise money for Ukraine.  From this little store they raised and donated over a million dollars to the war effort.

Across the highway, you will see the Door Peninsula Winery and Distillery.  A significant winery in Door County because it was one of the very first to establish Door County as a wine destination.  Beginning in an old school house which still has a bell hanging above the door, it has been through a few renovations and expansions to become what it is today; one of the largest wineries in Door County with one of the largest selections and free tasting. It’s definitely worth a visit whether you are into wine or not.

Now take a moment to check out anything here that interests you and then we’ll head over the hill to the bay as we make our way south towards Sturgeon Bay.
