Desecration of a Jewish Gravestone

A solemn testament to the atrocities committed during the Holocaust, a Jewish gravestone forms part of this exhibit. Nazis often desecrated Jewish graves for construction materials. Unusually, this specific headstone was repurposed to mark the grave of an SS officer. The gravestone carries the unique characteristic of featuring an inscription on the back, made by the SS officer's family fearing desecration as the war neared its end.
