Margaret Street Bridge (and former Junction Mills)

Ahead we are approaching the Walk Mill Bridge, otherwise known as Margaret Street Bridge, which was rebuilt in 2013.

As we pass under the bridge, you will see on the left, the tall, octagonal chimney of the Junction Mills.   These mills were built between 1831 and 1890, for Samuel Heginbottom and his sons, as cotton spinning and weaving mills.   The firm went out of business in 1930, and the buildings have been demolished.   All that remains is the 210 feet (64 m) octagonal chimney, built in 1867, and typical of that period.   This has been preserved in situ.
