15 Medicine

The theme of this window is Medicine.  The panels on the left and right sides honor notable people in the field of medicine, including Hippocrates and Pasteur.  The four central panels depict scenes of the study and practice of medicine.  

Going clockwise from the top left, Physiology is represented by a student recording his findings.  He is flanked by a microscope, images of the organs of the body, and a human brain.  

In the next panel, Surgery is represented by the first use of anesthesia in 1846. The ether mask is being removed while others look on.  

The study of Anatomy is represented by a body about to be dissected. The background figure points to a drawing of a skeleton.   

The final scene represents biology, and shows a student peering into a microscope. Surrounding him are animals and plants from different biological classifications.
