Welcome to our audio tour along Damrak! Most visitors get to know the Damrak when they walk from Central Station into the city. This is where they get their first impressions of Amsterdam, of the canal boats and the houses that rise directly from the water.
Originally, the Damrak was the harbour of Amsterdam. The open connection with the waterfront of Het IJ provided a view of the moored ships. The most radical change came with the construction of the Central Station, which cut off the Damrak from the open harbour front. The second major intervention was the construction of the Beurs van Berlage and the creation of Beursplein.
During this tour, you will hear a lot about the buildings through the centuries - about the transformations in the 20th century, the architects involved and the current challenges. Discover the Damrak with architour!
The tour takes ca. 1,5 hours.
