This work titled Unknown Interior is my homage to my first, and lasting, artistic influence, the Hudson River School artists of the early and mid-eighteen hundreds. Settlers had not explored much west of the Mississippi and the interior of the continent still held many surprises for new immigrants.
This painting serves as a metaphor for my own inner exploration. This painting asks both what is out in the distant landscape but also what is to be discovered within myself, raising questions about my own nature and drives. The dark mysterious void in the foreground serves as a metaphor for this personal journey.
