Bank of nh

22: Bank of New Hampshire

John Adams Harper, US Representative from Meredith Bridge (Laconia) during the War of 1812 lived in Laconia from 1806-1816 at this location.  Additions to the building were made by Dr. John C. Huckins who operated a private hospital in the home from 1923-1924.  The City of Laconia acquired the house in 1926, made several renovations and it was then the location for City Hall and the Laconia Police Station until 1970, when both offices move to other locations in the city.

The Bank of New Hampshire was originally chartered by the Legislature as Provident Institution of Savings at Meredith Bridge in 1831 (located at the junction of Pleasant and Main Streets at this time). In 1869, after Laconia was incorporated, the name changed to Laconia Savings Bank.  In 2012, considering what the bank has become to the larger community of New Hampshire, the name changed to Bank of New Hampshire to better reflect their growth and commitment to the entire state.
