Pindo Palm

Continue on Parnassus to Belvedere Street, and turn right (south) to head up Belvedere..

At 431 Belvedere you’ll find a pindo palm – the scientific name is Butia odorata – native to Southern Brazil and Uruguay.  This tree was only planted in 2010, but it is already demonstrating the characteristic blue-gray, graceful fronds of the species, which curve in toward the trunk.  Pindo palms are rare as street trees in San Francisco, and this is the only one in the neighborhood.
