The Legacy of a B-24 Bomber: Axis Nightmare to Flamin Mamie

Hanging from the ceiling, directly above the Great War exhibit, you will find a cut-out section from the nose of a B-24 Bomber.

The plane, originally designated as, "Axis Nightmare," was based in China as part of the 308th Bomber Group. The plane most likely received its new designation, “Flamin Mamie,” post war, when most of the older planes of the war era were dismantled.

This remnant was preserved after the plane was scrapped and was purchased from a colleague of the museum’s curator. The serial number that can be seen at the top right of the cut-out, enabled the research and historical documentation of the plane, as well as the identity of its crew.
