Botany Basin Catchment

Centennial Park ponds form the upper catchment of the Botany Wetlands, which lie six kilometres downstream. Botany Wetlands is the largest freshwater wetland system in inner-metropolitan Sydney -59 hectares spread over a four kilometre corridor.

Rain that falls in areas such as Bondi Junctions, flows as stormwater to the Centennial Park Ponds. From these, water flows through a maze of stormwater drains, creeks and streams, right down to the Botany wetlands and then eventually to Botany Bay.

Water also flows underground, through the sandy Botany aquifer, along much of the same route.
