27 - Valley Oak Planting

The trees growing to the north and east of the trail are valley oak trees (Quercus lobata), a species native to California and well adapted to the region’s floodplains. These trees are part of the Preserve's history—they were the first planted by volunteers in 1988, marking the beginning of habitat restoration efforts. Valley oaks can live for hundreds of years and provide vital habitat for a wide range of wildlife, including birds, insects, and mammals.
