Now that you've taken the walking tour and probably worked up an appetite, why not drive to the nearby VFW, located just outside of town limits a half mile North up Main Street. They are open to the public 7 days/week and all you need to do is sign in at the door!
On August 13, 1946 a charter was issued for the Jerry Skrivanek VFW Post #8185 in Port Deposit with 44 charter members. The first meeting was held in the Royal Bar at the foot of Jacob Tome Highway (Center Street), with subsequent meetings around town.
The VFW Post 8185 purchased the building at their current location in 1955. It was previously known as the Yellow Dog Tavern and quarrymen were known to pay a nickel a night just to have a space on the floor to sleep for the night. This is also an excellent location to view the famed "Smith's Falls", where Capt. John Smith encountered such a rocky area of the river that his expedition in 1608 ceased to go any further. Also of historical significance at low tide, are the stone piers of the former Rock Run Covered Bridge that existed from 1818 to 1857.
