Chapter 7: Grant Park to City Hall

In July 1965, the Coordinating Council of Community Organizations (CCCO) invited Dr. King to lead a demonstration against segregation in education, housing, and employment. Al Raby and King spoke at a dozen rallies, including Grant Park and City Hall, which laid the groundwork for a larger campaign in Chicago.

These images were some of the earliest taken by Bernard Kleina during Dr. King’s time in Chicago. Key figures of the Chicago Freedom Movement appear in these images, such Dr. King, Al Raby, and Ralph Abernathy. City Hall would play an important role in the Movement's first large rally on July 10th, 1966.
