Bert Fish's office was here at 110 West Indiana Avenue.
Bert Fish made a fortune practicing law and investing in real estate. He eventually invested in national politics, too, and became FDR's ambassador to Egypt. As crazy as it sounds, his experience in DeLand's "Courthouse Ring" helped him preserve our access to Middle East oil reserves, which helped us win World War Two.
If you look closely, you might be able to see his ghost in his old doorway, stepping out of the building to make his customary march to the old courthouse. On moonlit nights, perhaps you'll see him through the window, still working at his desk.
Next location: Walk a few steps east on Indiana until you're facing Cress restaurant.
