To extend the Isetta’s run, BMW introduced the 600, with a back seat and a side-pening door, plus the semitrailing arm rear suspension that would be used on BMW cars through 2003. The larger vehicle needed a more powerful engine, so BMW reconfigured its 494cc M252 boxer twin into the 582cc M102. The engine gave the new microcar its name: 600. Some 2,044 examples were imported to the US,  including the car seen here. “It still needs love and care, but it’s a cool car and it puts a smile on everyone’s face,” says owner Fran Hughes.
