Knitted Alpaca and bamboo lace, chiffon, lace, and tulle.. 2020
I’m Cory Van Zytveld, and this is my wedding dress.
I taught myself to knit when I was ten years old and at some point in the years since then, I decided that I wanted to knit my wedding dress. I taught myself how to knit lace, and spent years trying to figure out patterning, and how it would fit, and if it would even be a possibility.'
'When my know husband and I were engaged, I lost all confidence in knitting my dress, and bought a more traditional wedding dress instead. When COVID hit and our original wedding plans were postponed, we decided to plan a small ceremony along Coal Creek in Louisville. I was afraid my original wedding dress would be destroyed next to a creek with sand and possibly mud, and that’s when I decided to give the knitted wedding dress idea a try. It took me four months of almost constant knitting and was finished the day of our wedding, and I “winged" it the entire time not knowing if it was actually going to turn out.
Despite all the hard things that COVID brought for all of us this last year, it also brought us the wedding I had always hoped for next to water, and among trees with lanterns hanging from them. It also allowed me the opportunity to knit the dress that I had always wanted for our wedding.
