These days I feel like a living statue. I’m usually home alone never interacting with anyone outside of my family. I see the same faces and do the same things every day. My only way to explore is through my phone. It’s like looking outside of a window. Except the window is the phone screen. The only way to interact with others is through the screen, watching people live actual fruitful lives while I’m stuck in the house all day with nowhere to go and nothing to do.

MASKED: LET ME OUT
During these strange times, I decided to pursue a more personal project out of my comfort zone in order to keep busy and to express what my mind is going through during lockdown.
Being alone in isolation, deprived of human interaction and touch, definitely made me think more about myself and how I am reacting to all this.

Yes, Covid-19 does care if you have a pre-existing condition. Yes, Covid-19 does prefer to infect an older body over a younger one. Yes, Covid-19 does attack the destitute, the uneducated and the uninformed more so than anyone else. But let me tell you something. Covid-19 doesn't give a damn about you race, your orientation, your religion, or your gender.
Unfortunately, our government has proven time and time again during this crisis that our lives come second to the life of the almighty dollar. Yes, I get that the economy is suffering a major setback due to the shutdown. I am experiencing firsthand what it's like to be a sole practitioner who suddenly has no income coming in because of what's happening. But I ask you, how will I be able to perform, or create art or even model for an audience who no longer exists? Does money really mean more than the customers you'll serve or the lives that you'll touch?
We must protect each other. Especially now with the beaches being reopened and non-essential business opening in some states. Don’t live in fear but do be smart. If not for yourself, then for those that aren't as blessed to have your healthy body and immune system. I simply can't afford to be blind to all the people in the world who are still struggling, and I hope you will consider them too. So, please know that you are important! Know that you are cared for and thought of! Know that you have the ability to protect those around you with something as simple as a mask and a sink! Know that I love you and take of yourself!

Underneath It
I'm a phlebotomist. As an essential employee, the pandemic has only added masks to my days on the clock. I'm not in the hospital so that is a huge relief as I don't come into contact with anyone who is positive. Honestly, as an introvert, I experienced a sort of envy that I couldn't stay home for extended periods of time. I have lots of hobbies and could really spend days playing. But on the bright side, I am grateful for my job and cherish my weekends off a little more.
