Hello, my name is Roger Reutimann.
You are standing in front of my sculpture “Nature Always Wins”. This pandemic has been a humbling reminder of how fragile we humans are and that nature always has been and always will be the dominant force on our planet.
As a sculptor I cast the majority of my work in metals like bonze or stainless steel but during the pandemic most foundries had turnaround time that were twice or even three times as long as normal. This made me think of alternative material that I could cast in my studio by myself. One of them was concrete, a material I had previously been experimenting with. In order to cast the concrete, I made fabric molds using my sewing machine and a bunch of old linen sheets. To go with the nature-theme I wanted to create a sculpture that resembles a flower or more precisely a flower with a “crown”, relating to the word Corona. For the concrete coloring I used two different natural pigments; ochre which is a mineral and ivory black, which is made from charcoaled bones.
