We all blend together.
Borders dissolve.
Clarity has left the scene.
Commerce casts filaments of light,
with the allure of social comfort
threading our hopes for certainty.
Do I take care for you?
And you for me?
So much is invisible.
This painting was begun in Late February of 2020, continuing my study of divergence. My hands, my eyes and my mind have built my experience of the pandemic into this image, a grand smearing of internal and external uncertainty, with hope born of light, forms revealed out of the darkness.
In the early days of COVID, I appear to be painting more. I also think about other people more. The lack of social interaction emerges tactile, insistent, an unmet promise. There is a feeling of deprivation these days, weeks & months of the pandemic, contradicting the quiet fulfillment I get from my oil and digital paintings. As I worked on "Ookayama," lost in its myriad abstractions, I was surprised as I began to see more than three people in the piece.
