I captured this iconic scene on a summer evening just a few days after the summer solstice. The day had been windy so the sky was unusually clear. The golden light of the sun was inescapable. The lifeguard was still on duty (as evidenced by the hanging buoy), but he was in the process of closing up the tower. As I began to frame my shot, a passing seagull obliged to put the finishing touches on this composition.
