Oak, White

Here is the massive White Oak, scientifically known as Quercus alba. You'll find these trees are very common in the Midwest. They can grow to a towering height of 150 feet but they usually only reach 80 in this area. Their acorns are a staple food for many species of wildlife, making them very useful trees. The leaves are long and slender with variable lobe shapes. They're smooth on top and pale underneath. As these trees mature, take notice of their bark; it's light gray and very thick, providing excellent protection from the elements.
