4. Silos

The utilisation of silos as the means for storing cereal and leguminous crops is documented ever since pre-history and was introduced on a large scale in al-Andalus by the Moorish peoples settling here.

 

This technique for storing foodstuffs is described in various Arabic agricultural treatises. Throughout the entire castle area, these excavated cavities have been identified in the rocky substrate, semi-spherical in shape but with diverse sizes and depths.
