4810 17th Street -The very tall pine tree between the two buildings at this address is a Canary Island pine tree, native to the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. The scientific name is Pinus canariensis. Also planted in a sidewalk cut at this address is a red flowering gum from southwest Australia – the scientific name is Corymbia ficifolia. Despite its name, the flowers of this tree can bloom red, orange, pink or white (or various shades in between). This particular tree has spectacular orange flowers when it blooms in August each year.
