Kitty Rogers
This photo of Kitty Rogers was taken when she was 14 years old, four years before her family moved into Hearthstone.
As mentioned previously, Kitty attended Wells College in Aurora New York from 1879-1882. One of her classmates was Francis Folsom who, at the age of 22, married President Grover Cleveland, age 49, on June 2 1886. They were married in the Blue Room, the first wedding held in the White House.
When Kitty married Frank Pietsch, the wedding and the reception were an elaborate affair. The event was a highlight of the local social scene and was covered in copious detail in newspapers as far away as Chicago. The reception was held here at Hearthstone. It was held both inside the house and on a 45 foot canopied platform overlooking the river that was lit with Chinese lanterns and electric lights.
Kitty was born on January 25 1864 in Denver, Colorado. She died in Ashville North Carolina on May 21, 1931 at the age of 67.
