"My husband and I moved off the farm in Bloomingdale to come to work in the factories in Kalamazoo. Farm work is hard but so is factory work. In the factory we get steady pay and that's important for raising a family. Emery, my husband, works at the paper mill. I'm a seamstress at Henderson-Ames -- I make 15 dollars a week. I sit at a sewing machine all day making all kinds of uniforms and costumes."
