Atlantic Coastline Terminal

108 Gladden Street

Present-Day - Washington Tourism Development Authority

The train terminal was built in 1904 when railroads and other transportation began to rival the local waterways as an efficient means to ship trade goods. Thirteen years after city residents approved to buy property for a terminal, the passenger depot was completed in 1904 at the cost of $12,000. The 14,000 square foot warehouse was completed in 1906. The tracks entered the town from the center of 2nd Street and turned south parallel to Gladden Street into today's Civic Center parking lot. They crossed the intersection of Main and Gladden to end at the Atlantic Coastline pier on the river. In 1970 the railroad ceased its operation of tracks in Washington.
