Present-Day location of the BHM Regional Library
Circa 1786. The court was moved to Washington from Bath in 1785 when Bath began to lose its importance as a port and trading center. The courthouse survived the fire of 1900. It is the second oldest courthouse building in North Carolina and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The next part of our tour takes place primarily along W. Main St. If you are walking, please move down N. Market St. to right onto W. Main St. If you are driving, obey traffic laws and go to W. 2nd St., turn left and drive to a left onto Van Norden St., and then left onto W. Main St.
