St. Athansius

This painting depicts St. Athanasius.   Athanasius was Patriarch of Alexandria in the Fourth Century.  He is remembered for his resolute support of orthodox Nicene Christianity in opposition to the Arian heresy which denied the divinity of Christ.  For much of his life he was persecuted and often exiled; but in the end the truth that he stood for prevailed among faithful Christian believers.
